For this terrace the client wanted to surround a pool and continue around and also in front of the house. The surrounding terrain was uneven and in places newly placed and consequently fragile. We only ever lay terraces on reinforced concrete, the ground in this area moves too much, due to the massive differences in heat and humidity between summer and winter. In this case we formed a surrounding wall using a hollow block filled with concrete and reinforcing steel, in this way the whole was joined structurally together stopping any chance of movement. We then in filled with 0-20 gravel and topped off with 75mm concrete reinforced with 6mm steel mesh.
Finally we laid the slabs themselves, all the boundaries had been set to take an exact number of slabs, obviously this way there are fewer cuts to make and the look is better.
